When it comes to facing the bathroom, tile immediately comes to mind. For decades he was out of competition, but a worthy opponent appeared: he broke the monopoly of porcelain stoneware. It is better than a tile, it is various in design to lay porcelain tile in a bathroom, special qualification is not required.
These materials are identical in composition, the main difference in technology. In the manufacture of porcelain stoneware, dyes are immediately added to the basic ingredients (no synthetics, only natural). Everything is thoroughly mixed, molded tiles of the desired shape. It is pressed and ignited under great pressure and at high temperature. Clay becomes an alloy stronger granite or marble. It lacks any pores, so the standard ceramic granite moisture absorption is almost a hundred times smaller than that of tile. This is the most important condition for a small room with high humidity, which is the bathroom, because it is in the pores that the fungus develops.
The tile is the basis covered with glaze which can wear out over time, peel off, exposing a gray substrate. This does not threaten porcelain stoneware: no matter how much it is abraded or peeled off, the color will not change, the design will not suffer.
When deciding which material to use in the bathroom: porcelain stoneware or tile, you should prefer the first option. Moreover, the difference in price between them is not critical. In the bathroom, as a room with high humidity, the main advantage of porcelain stoneware is fully used - zero water absorption. Even in such extreme conditions, high-strength material will last for decades, many times longer than any other coating.
Having decorated the room with porcelain tile, you can forget about this problem. However, there are other advantages:
- wear resistance is such that the tile can be scratched, rubbed, cleaned as you like. If you try hard, only the gloss is damaged, matte withstands everything except diamond;
- cobwebs-cracks will never appear on the surface of the porcelain stoneware, by which the outdated or low-grade tile is immediately recognized;
- reduces the risk of electric shock (if there is a washing machine or other electrical appliances in the bathroom) to zero;
- porcelain tile does not react to aggressive chemistry, so you can wash it by any means.
The downside is the need to install a warm floor under the porcelain stoneware. For the bathroom, this is especially important: hot water, steam, the heating system is unable to heat the stone, and becoming barefoot on a cold surface is unpleasant and fraught with health.
Porcelain tile for the bathroom is available in such a diverse range that you can choose the most suitable modification depending on the purpose of the coating and personal preferences. The quality and safety standards for this room include the use of several types of porcelain stoneware: matte, polished, glazed.
Porcelain tiles for the walls in the bathroom - most often glazed or polished tiles. The wall layer reflects light to the maximum, providing good illumination of the room and expanding it visually. This is especially valuable for small areas.
As a flooring, these varieties are not very good, since the glaze can wear off over time, and the polish is too slippery.
Practical and safe views with non-slip coating. Porcelain tile for the floor in the bathroom is presented in three versions:
- Satined. Special shine gives the material technology. A pattern is applied to the raw tile, and after roasting, a soft, non-slip surface is obtained.
- Structured. Matte surface with a convex ornament. This technology produces an imitation of parquet, leather, and other coatings of unusual structure. This bathroom floor is both beautiful and safe.
- Technical. Externally, the tile resembles a natural stone. The cheapest variety, the base for other species, including the newest type of glazed stoneware tiles. It is positioned as something unusual, but in fact it turns out that it is a technical stoneware covered with small glaze. It looks beautiful, it is expensive, although in fact it is the same tile.
Floor stoneware tiles of any kind have anti-slip properties.
The safest floor tile is matte or with a rough base. It is ideal because it accumulates less water and it is most difficult to slip on it.
In the bathroom, porcelain tiles with gloss are attractive, but not suitable for all rooms. If you really want, it is better to choose a light shade so that the ceiling does not hang, visually reducing the space.
You should not lay porcelain in a room partially lined with small-format ceramic tiles: the difference in textures will be obvious. From this neighborhood loses and tile and granite.
In this segment of building materials in the course of the term "rectified porcelain." It means the highest level of processing, the observance of all parameters to the smallest detail and is applicable to any kind of material with a quality category of luxury.
The desired design of the bathroom can be created without effort: the materials will satisfy every taste and request. Imitating the natural texture of stone, leather, metal are especially in demand.
Marble stoneware imitates stone with exceptional precision: with modulations of shades, streaks, inclusions and other things.
White marble baths are known since antiquity. Such a design is a classic attribute of luxury. Porcelain is more affordable, but polished to a mirror shine tiles look gorgeous.
White visually enlarges the room, the bathroom becomes lighter and more spacious.
For walls suitable gray porcelain light colors, pearl or a combination of colors of different saturation. Floors may be darker. Gray is one of the three basic colors, it is combined with any other, so you can dilute the basic tone with bright inserts, so that you can then choose textiles and other accessories for them. In any case, everything will look elegant.
A good solution as a floor covering as a component of a spectacular mosaic with other colors. All shades of pink are perfect from this palette - it can be used independently.
The interior is infrequent. In its pure form, this design is an amateur and for extravagant natures that make up an apartment and a bathroom in the style of Gothic. More often you can find a combination of black and white veins. It looks spectacular, the room is transformed dramatically.
Almost like a real tree looks textured material. It is made by structuring: under the press, the texture of the parquet or boards is created. To make the similarity even greater, tiles on the floor are made not in traditional formats, but in the form of parquet or planks. So it turns out like a decorative laminate, parquet, array.
They can be laid out as you wish: a continuous layer over the entire surface, mosaic, pattern.
The process is almost the same as for the tile. However, the laying of porcelain has nuances.
For porcelain stoneware, dense material with low adhesion (i.e. adhesion), ordinary sand-cement mortar is not suitable. Need special acrylic and latex compositions.
Before laying the foundation is aligned and primed twice. Glue is applied to the wall or floor and tile.
