Features of the tile: the advantages of such a finish (22 photos)

Roll roofing materials submitted by manufacturers relatively recently, gradually replacing all others. This is especially true for roll shingles. And all because at an affordable price and high quality, it is in no way inferior to its "older friend" - shingles.

Characteristics of the material

The tile has a polyester base on which a layer of modified polymer and bitumen is applied. Top applied basalt granules, which can be red, brown or green. A roll of soft tile has a size of 1x8 m, and weighs about 4.5 kg per square meter.

Such a soft tile is ideal for overlapping roofs in buildings with a sloping roof, on which it is not so convenient to put slate or shingles. Typically, tile roofing is used to overlap roofs in:

  • cottages;
  • garages;
  • barns;
  • barns;
  • summer houses;
  • baths;
  • arbors.

Despite the affordable price, the tile has a presentable appearance, so the buildings covered with it look beautiful. The slope of the roof slope for laying tile must be at least 3 degrees.

Advantages of a rolled tile

Installation of a rolled tile is carried out very easily. Even a beginner can cope with this task because it is self-adhesive, and it can be easily fixed on the slopes of the roof. Moreover, in each roll there is an instruction in which it is described in detail how to properly lay the tile so that it does not blow away, and it does not leak.

The important advantage of a rolled soft tile - reasonable price. It is cheaper than most of the materials used to overlap roofs by 1.5-2 times, so economic non-residential buildings cover this type of tile.

She also has a presentable appearance. Sheds or garages laid with such tiles look completely different, like newly built ones. The top layer is so brightly and efficiently made that it seems as if the building is covered with expensive ceramic or metal tile.

The rolled bituminous tile has good sound insulation. Even during heavy rain and wind, the room is absolutely quiet, so it is also used for floors and residential premises.
Soft tiles are easy to transport and load in the car. One roll weighs only 32 kilograms. In the absence of special equipment, they can be loaded one by one into the truck, but if you need a lot of roofing material, for example, to cover the whole cottage village, the tiles need to be loaded with pallets. A maximum of 30 rolls are packed on one such pallet, which are packed in shrink film.

Unlike metal, roll is not afraid of moisture and does not appear on it corrosion, and yet it is resistant to ultraviolet rays. Even during the hot sunny summer, it does not fade and does not deform. Thanks to a special coating, snow does not accumulate on the roof, which can come off as an avalanche as the temperature rises. That security is its key advantage. Also, the tile is very hermetic, so it does not need to be covered with an additional membrane.

Recommendations for laying tiles

Laying roll tiles begins with the preparation of the surface. First, OSB plates are mounted on the batten, the thickness of which should be 12 or 9 mm. For reliability, the surface can be coated with a bitumen primer. Before you lay the tile, you need to make sure that there is no debris on the surface.

Installation is recommended to be carried out at a temperature not lower than 5 degrees - it is strictly prohibited to perform work in the cold. Before laying, you need to unwind the roll and dock the picture. Even if you block the roof in the old barn, make it beautiful. The drawing is simple, so even if you dock it and cut off the excess, there will be little waste.

Roof start from the right edge. The rolls are put on the roof so that it overlaps over the ridge. In no case can not dock the edge of the roll with the edge of the skate. At the self-adhesive tile the lower layer is removed. This should be done gradually, carefully unwinding the roll. The coating is firmly pressed to the roof and additionally nailed. Nails are driven at a distance of 6 cm.

The roof overlap can be horizontal and vertical, but in any case the roll should overlap through the ridge. It is the ridge that is the most vulnerable part of the roof, which may require repair in the first place, so a lining carpet is placed under the tiles at the intersection of the roof slopes. For greater reliability, it is processed with bitumen mastic, to which a canvas is attached with nails.

When laying such a tile, as when gluing wallpaper, you need to make sure that there are no air bubbles. If the air is not expelled, the bubble under the self-adhesive coating may increase, and over time the roof will leak. Also, in order for the laid sheets of the tile not to blow off, there should be a distance of about 50 cm between their edges. For example, if the length of the sheet from the ridge to the edge is 1 meter, then the edge of the next sheet should be 50 cm shorter.

Soft tile is so versatile that it can even be put on a wall or pipe. It is more difficult than roofing, but if the calculations are done correctly, and the tiles are laid carefully, the pipe will be very similar to real brickwork.

Rolled self-adhesive tiles are suitable for floors and residential and non-residential premises. Even a novice can handle its installation: it is easy and very easy to install. Such tiles look presentable and adorn the simplest building. It has a high noise insulation, does not deteriorate under the influence of the sun and moisture. It is quite elastic and durable, therefore, with proper installation for several years, the coating does not need to be repaired. The main advantage of this material is an affordable price. Including therefore, having appeared quite recently, in 2019, the rolled tile gradually began to force out other types of roofing materials from the market.
