A hedge in the country or in the park is an integral part of creating a beautiful site with the help of plants. For the first time in the world, they talked about "green walls" in the 16th century. Historians say that in the Roman gardens as a hedge planted grapes girlish, roses and fruit bushes.

To date, fencing of shrubs or low trees are widely used in the improvement of gardens. Thanks to them, you can create borders or zoning areas in the garden. Often fences of this kind are used to camouflage any buildings, shelter a part of the house from the wind (even in winter), or create a zone of solitude - gazebos, recreation areas (grapes or roses).

Varieties of fences from plants

Types of hedges are divided depending on how high they are, whether the crown is formed, and on the requirement for trimming. For the most part, such fences can be divided into two types:

  • Molded hedge.
  • Unshaped live fencing.
  • Freely growing hedge.

Hedges also differ in the number of rows of planted plantations. To choose a suitable planting scheme is based on their ability to grow rapidly.

Single row hedge

Shrubs for hedges are planted in a single line at a distance of 30 to 50 cm from each other. Trees need a little more space, so they should be planted a little further - from half a meter to 75 centimeters. A hedge of spruce requires planting plants at a distance of 1 m from each other. If you decide to create a landscape design, planting a thuja - it will need space from 80 centimeters to 1.5 m (depending on the variety). Vertical evergreen hedge is obtained by planting fast-growing plants at a distance of 1.5 to 2.5 meters.

When choosing trees or evergreen shrubs for a hedge, you should carefully study the characteristics of plants, imagine how the design of the summer cottage will change in the process of their growth.

Cotoneaster hedge - This is one of the most successful options for low fences in the summer cottage, landed along the fence or around the house. Plants are easy to care for, they require only a couple (one winter) haircuts.
